Everyone thinks that the boys are dead. Betsy thinks to herself how she wished that Tom had given her something to remember him by, but things can not be undone. Soon all the children remember the things that Tom did for them. As everyone sits in the funeral, as the priest tells everyone of the glorious lives that the boys had and how much everyone liked them. As he was raving on, the door slowly creaked open, and in came the boys, Tom, Joe Harper and Huck Finn listening to their own funeral procession. Aunt polly kissed him "more than she had in a year." It just goes to show, "people don't appreciate you until you are gone."
"NOW his future plan lay before him, and glowing with unimaginable splendor."
[Tom Sawyer, Chapter 8]
Everyone wants to be something or someone. Some would like to be an astronaut or a profession athlete. Not many end up becoming what they wanted to when they were 10, but that is sometimes a good thing, for instance, if you wanted to become a pirate, that might not always be such a good idea. For some, that is the best option, in the book Tom Sawyer, Tom already knows that when he grows up, he is going to be a pirate. While this is many boys fantasy, in the book, Tom really does end up living his dream. He leaves to an island with some of his friends where his raft drifts away. Everyone thinks that the three boys are dead, and they soon send a search boat out. To no avail, as the boys realize that it is meant for them and they think that is it to find someone else. When his friends soon want to go back, Tom resists and says that the island is where he wants to stay. Toms dreams of becoming a pirate are not too far off, for later Tom and Huck go hunting for treasure. As they are digging with their tools, they begin talking about another one of Toms idols, Robin Hood. A man that many aspire to be more like, he is a man of equality, wanting to take from the rich and give to the poor. "NOW his future plan lay before him, and glowing with unimaginable splendor." [Tom Sawyer] Here Twain is emphasizing the importance of how even when times are down, you can reflect on what you can become. This applies with everyone at any age, everyone has dreams and even if they are not the same throughout your life, they will always be a part of your memory in the back of your mind. Even once you outgrow them because they may seem "ridiculous" you will come back to them and think. Having dreams is what makes us push ourselves to be the best person that we can be. Whether or not they come true, they make us people with determination.
When my sister and I got on the plane to South Carolina at the beginning of March break, we could feel the warm weather. Well, not really seeing as it was only 40 degrees at Logan Airport, and we were bundled up in long sleeves and pants. My sister and I were happy to get out of the bad weather in Boston and into the 80 degree weather of South Carolina. The plane ride was about an hour and not much to do, So we ate the salty snacks and the drinks, and we bought some things at the vendors before we boarded. When the plane landed in the Savannah airport, we could already tell that it was warm outside. Once we got our luggage and rented a car, we were on our way to seeing my grandparents who had moved there recently. When the plane landed in the Savannah airport, we could already tell that it was warm outside. Once we got our luggage and rented a car, we were on our way to seeing my grandparents who had moved there recently. We had never seen their house, and it was in a old folks community. They were right on the par three 8th, and I must have played that hole 20 times. Seeing them was great, after not seeing them for a long time, but we all missed their house in New Hampshire. My favorite part of South Carolina was that every other store had to do with golf. The portion sizes were huge, and extremely unhealthy. At one resturaunt, there was a 3 pound burger served with fries and fried pickles. Once it was time to go after one more unreasonable meal, we hugged and said goodbye.
"Books Are Uniquely Portable Magic."-Stephen King
Tom Sawyer is an action packed and exciting book by Mark Twain. Tom is a crafty and witty character, who is afraid of nothing. He can always seem to get out of trouble, no matter the circumstances. His aunt says that she will beat him, But Tom always seems to get out of it by tricking her. He skips school and when his aunt asks what he did, he has to make things up. He fights boys, one on one, and in pretend wars, where a gang of boys fights another gang. They then count up the "dead" to see who wins, and plan for the date of the next battle.
Tom's aunt gives him plenty of chores around the house, but Tom tricks his friends into doing them for him. One example of this is in chapter two, when Tom tricks his friend Ben into whitewashing the fence by saying how great and fun it is. By then Ben is so intrigued by how fun Tom makes it seem, that he gives him his apple to do Tom's chores. Once Ben is done he gets some of his friends to do it as well, telling them how wonderful it was. By the end of the day, Tom has amassed an army of treasures for the right to whitewash the fence.
Not everything goes Tom's way. For instance, when he is walking he sees a little girl, and immediately falls for her. He then proceeds to show off for her so as to gain her affection, and later that night, sits under a window to wait for her to come out. The maid dumps the chamberpot remnants on his head, and Tom goes home dejected. His mischievous acts make you want to continue to read the book.
Dustin Johnson's 8 victories on the PGA tour is all because of his distance off the tee. His longest drive is 388 yards which is 90 yards further than the PGA tour average. Overall, windsor was a fun trip. it had its ups and its downs, but as a team we made it work.
When we got to WIndsor after the 90 minute bus drive, my legs were sore. After we stepped out into the cool afternoon breeze and took our bags out of the bottom of the bus, we headed to our cabins. We were in cabin number two, the most spacious by far (besides 5.5 of course) and once were scrambled to get the best bunk, we dropped our bags and went to the steps to get our debriefing. We met Tom, the head of windsor, and his gang of people from outside the country. We then hung out in the cabins, played ping pong and just explored. After they rung the bell it was time to head in for lunch: cheeseburgers. The food was delicious, and continued that way for the rest of the stay. While all of the activities there were fun, one of my favorite was the waterfont. It was like an obsticle course, but in the water. We had to work as a team to get a tennis ball around an obstacle course and onto the other side of the dock. We had the best time of all the groups to complete the course at 4.35 minutes. But it was not until our last try that we did it when we all collaborated on who did which job best and stuch to the plan that we had descussed before the last trial. When we stuck to the plan that we had discussed, it worked the best. e all played manhunt and "star spinning" that night everyone was having a good time. When we all went to bed, everyone was exhausted and fell asleep quickly from the day of excitement. The next day was much the same and when it was time to go, everyone was sad. we had a quick lunch and got on the bus to go back. I took a nap on the way back for the whole time and when we got back I couldn't believe it was already over. Everyone said their goodbyes, and left and it was over.
Sergio Garcia has won over 20 international tournaments, including the Players Championship in 2008. While he is the best dressed player on the tour, it has not helped him win as many tournaments as he would like. He is one of the best iron players on tour, he has still never won a major championship, but has had four runner up finishes. Also he has never been world number one even though he is constantly in the top ten. He has been number two after he won the HSBC championship in November 2008 and that is the closest he has came to world number one. He started golfing at the age of three and won his club championship at 12. He turned pro in 1999 and he won in his sixth start on the European tour. Sergio's unconventional swing was leading him to less consistent shots. When he started to take longer on his shots spectators started to heckle him and in a press conference, he said, "My swing works for me, so why should i change it?" He has changed his swing since then but has still not won a major championship. In 2008 he won the Vardon trophy, and the Byron Nelson Award.
He is expected to retire in a few years but he wont quit without a fight for a Major.
Rory Mcilroy's recent climb to fame has helped him become one of the best golfers in the world. In the last three weeks he has had two top ten finishes, fifth at the Deutsche bank, and eighth at the BMW championship and in those two tournaments, he earned over 500,000. while this is nearly one 70th of career earnings, almost 35 million dollars, it still boosted him to the number 4 in the world.
As a young boy, he chipped golf balls in to washing machines on television in Ireland. He soon grew extremely good and in 2007 at the age of 17 he was on the professional circuit. in his first year on the tour, he earned 450,000, finished 95th in world rankings, and his tour card for 2008 from a fourth place finish.
In 2008 he had six top ten finishes, including second place, and moved up to 39th in the world rankings. In 2009 he got his first win at 19, in the Dubai Desert Classic, and it took him to 16th in the world standings. At the end of november, he was barely in the top ten, at ninth. In May 2010 he recorded his first PGA tour win when he shot a course record 62 in the Quail Ridge Championship, and later in the year he had a crucial victory in the Ryder Cup to lead Europe to the win.
In 2011 Rory won the U.S. open, his first of three total majors, this victory boosted him to number two in the world. In 2012, he won PGA championship by a record 8 strokes, which made him the world number one. In that year, he also broke a record set by Tiger Woods, to win 5 tournaments in a single season. He started the 2013 season with high hopes but failed to achieve them, with only one tour win over Adam Scott by one stroke.
Next year Mcilroy will pick up his game due to a change in coach, which has greatly improved his game recently.
